November and the adventures

The Gas Museum

See, Pumkins are done and dusted and back to museums.

We have been meaning to visit this museum for years and years. Unfortunately the opening times are a little short, only 3 afternoons a week and weekdays at that, when we are normally out at work.

Unlike all our other museums which are open all day at the weekend.

When we got there, the Curator was talking on the telephone, so of course we waited.
It became clear that he was being offered a Gas Cooker for the museum, happens alot apparently. Unfortunately, they can't take them all, let alone the safety of said items.

When he finished on the phone, he actually thought we just wanted to ask something, or to donate a cooker!!!!  he was quite surprised that we wanted to look around.

All gas kitchen, yes the fridge runs on gas.

I don't think I would be using these.

Yes, it really is an hairdryer, you sit infront of it.
I guess it would dry your hair, just as long as you like the wind-swept look.

All mod-cons

It looks abit worse for wear now, but I don't think I would have wanted to use it, originally.

Pumpkins for the 3rd time

And last, you'll be pleased to know, I'm sure.

We were both at home at dinner time today, so in an effort not to waste the pumpkin I made soup.

I think it looks like a manic pac man, not good!!!

I'm amazed at how orange the pumpkin is, the photo dosn't do it justice.

Saved seeds for next year. I've said that we can only pick the best looking plant.
We only want one, no really we do only want and need one!!!!

Pumpkins, Part 2

Pumpkin Chutney

I'm not too sure about this one, I think the receipe called for far too much ginger. I did wonder at the time.

I tasted it after about 3/4 hour on the hob and I was correct. !!!

I added a little bit of the cider which was left over and some sugar, and continued to cook it.

Its abit milder now, strong cheese will be needed.

I got two jars, we shall see how it tastes in due course. We won't open until Christmas so it has a month to calm down.

Maybe, Pumpkin soup tomorrow, but for now, I'm all Pumpkined out.

Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin

I was given a Pumpkin yesterday by a very kind person on t'internet.

I've never grown or tasted pumpkin before. Or indeed tackled one.

Well, it was actually much easier to cut than I thought it would be.

The start of Sausage and Pumpkin Casserole

The kitchen smells lovely.

I've kept two portions back for tea tomorrow, with wedges in a bowl, its that sort of stew.

Two more double portions for the freezer.

Comfy Cat

When we went out at the weekend, we went to a nursery which has two resident cats or pogs as we call them.

I've really no idea why we do, but there you go.

We hoped we would see them as they oftern have a fuss, one once nudged me in the back of the leg for a fuss, didn't half make me jump!!

S(he) had a wash, a fuss, then went back to sleep again.

Beacon Hill and Silent Sunday

November is Birthday Month

Well, its arrived, it wasn't today btw, but it was this month.
The big 4-0

I really can't understand how it happened, when I was 18 this was never going to happen ;-)

We went to Bradgate Park and Jade Tearooms for dinner.

A few hardy people were seated outside, and although its unseasonably warm, a November birthday can't really include lunch outside.

We came to Bradgate Park last year for my birthday, I'm sure it was icy then.

A rare treat to see one of these close up. They do live in the park, but you don't very oftern see them this close.

It was a good day, and was after dark when we got back home.

November and Christmas is coming.....

The start of the decorations in town.

I must get the hang of proper photography, it really wasn't as grim as this looks.

Town Hall Square, this is usually done very well, and I'm sure it will be this year.
These normally something for the children most years. Last year it was the 12 days of Christmas.

Preparation are happening at home as well....

Fruit soaking overnight in Rum

The cake was in the oven for 4 hours, so I went out for a few hours, when I came back the whole house had the fragrance of Christmas.

I forgot to take a photo of the finished cake.

Douthincesaurus

Pronounced Do-you-think-he-saw-us

I don't think he has, sshhhh

Oh he is only a little one, not scared of him.

From a new exhibition at New Walk Museum, we made the mistake previously of calling in on the day it opened. You couldn't really get around very well, so we decided to wait for another time.
We are usually passing at some point.

Reasons to be cheerful

3 Reasons to be cheerful

Its a dreary day here, its warm for November, unseasonably so, but it is dreary and damp. I was thinking of going to the allotment, but I think it will be still damp, even this afternoon but we shall see.

So its a look back of the year tim, to warmer nicer things.
