Summer Flowers and Rain

So far this summer, there has been rather a lot of rain. I'm sure that this time last year I was on my second bottle of sun cream and last year wasn't that sunny either.

Its a good thing for me though, as I'm not all that keen on the sun and much prefer the autumn and winter.

Home grown strawberries from our allotment.

I'm very pleased with the lobelia, this is "home grown" as well

I really hope those hanging baskets fill out soon.

I can't remember the name

We visited this nursery but I really can't remember the name of it. Sorry. However I still want to show you the photo's of the garden.

We will go back (and show you the photo's) when its a bit warmer for dinner in the garden.

Nice idea for a seat isn't it, must bring good luck as well.

Queens Park and Charnwood Museum

We have been here before and see it at various times of the year. Its always a nice place to visit, much like an old friend.

We've been before of course, looking much prettier now.

During the summer these trees provide a needed place to sit in the shade with a picnic.

March in our world

End of March in the Garden

March has ended with a mini heat wave, far warmer than it ought to be for the time of the year. Very nice to see some sunshine though.

Gaddesby Open Gardens

The first visit of the year to open gardens.

Nice entrance to the garden, it was very well thought out when you think that this is simply the bit down the side of the house. Usually a section not thought about.

Such a simple path.

Nice idea. It worked as well, in that I can't see any gaps!

Nice place to sit with coffee and cake, or wine.

Very Early March in the Garden

Lots of promise of things to come. It looks abit damp as well.

Lots of gaps at the moment.

This bit is always damp and in the shade, the ground elder which you can see comes from next door. I don't think these much we can do about getting rid of it, apart from to move house.

Seed Sowing in March

I am very very behind with blogging this month. I've been sowing seeds. We don't have a greenhouse, otherwise I'd sow even more! but we do have windowsills which are almost as good.

I really must make a note not to sow the whole packet of seeds, otherwise you end up with this lot.

I bought these petunia plants as plugs.

See how well they have grown, I know they always do*, its just that its always a nice surprise when they do. 

*Apart from a 100% failure on a packet of Gardener's Delight seeds which have not germinated at all. I've even check to make sure the foil packet isn't still in the seed packet.

 These Sweet Pea's were not that successful either.

Brooklea Nursery and Daisy's Tea Rooms

As we usual at the weekend we found a cafe to visit.

Lovely, almost spring like sunshine. Although not quite warm enough to sit outside just yet.

Yum Yum, well it would have been rude to refuse.

It will be nice to sit out here during the summer.

Snow

Well, it was forecast and it came, rather a lot of it as well.

The Tulips peeping their heads through is a result of the Lasagna planting I did last year.

I do like the little bit of snow settled in the candle holder on the shed.

I put the oven on and made this.

Grow Your Own

Making a start, I do love sowing seeds. Last years leeks are nearly all gone now. So I think I need to sow a few more this year. I'v done two trays like this.

3 pots of Brocolli

The view from the shed door, the birds do visit.

Sweet Pea do make brilliant cut flowers, and the more you cut the more they come.

Ours didn't do very well last year, I think they got buried in other flowers before they had a chance. I shall more them to another site this year.

Sweet pea seeds, they do have a long root run so will enjoy these root trainers.
