Charnwood Water

At the weekend we went for a walk around Charnwood Water. Its mainly used for fishing now. But open to anyone to have a walk around.

I'm not sure that the water is that blue, I think the camera is lying.

Some lovely views. I wouldn't mind a view like that from my house.

I'm not usually lucky enough to have my camera just to hand at the exact moment a robin lands a couple of feet away from me.

Then we found this, rather abandoned.

Snow

Well, it was forecast and it came, rather a lot of it as well.

The Tulips peeping their heads through is a result of the Lasagna planting I did last year.

I do like the little bit of snow settled in the candle holder on the shed.

I put the oven on and made this.

Grow Your Own

Making a start, I do love sowing seeds. Last years leeks are nearly all gone now. So I think I need to sow a few more this year. I'v done two trays like this.

The view from the shed door, the birds do visit.

Sweet Pea do make brilliant cut flowers, and the more you cut the more they come.

Ours didn't do very well last year, I think they got buried in other flowers before they had a chance. I shall more them to another site this year.

Sweet pea seeds, they do have a long root run so will enjoy these root trainers.

The big Garden Bird Watch

The weekend started of with the Big Garden Birdwatch

We provide food all year round, we have noticed that the bird that visit our garden like mealworms, they pick these out from the other mixes of seeds, even if the mealworms are within a suet mix. They throw the other 'rubbish' to one side.

To take part, you have to watch for one hour over this weekend then submit your results. I watched whilst making bread and butter pickles.

I counted the following, Blackbird, Collard Dove, Robin, House Sparrow, 2 Feral Pigeons, Starling and a little Jenny Wren.

Results duly sumitted.

Onto Bread and Butter Pickles.

Cucumber, Onions and Pickling Spice in Pickled Vinegar.

According to instructions, 1 tbsp of spice per pint of vinegar, I had half a pint of vinegar, so half tbsp boiled then left to cool for 2 hours.

Its the first time, so I'll let you know.

Queen's Park, Loughborough

We had a bit of a shopping trip last weekend, combined with a park and cafe, of course.

This park is within the town centre which suits us fine.

Queen's Park opened to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee in 1899 to promote an healthy town.

It makes us happy to walk around, if that counts.

The Bandstand with opened in 1902. The building you can see behind the band stand is the Carillon which was started in 1902.

We sat inside, away from the open door for dinner. Abit cold in January for eating outdoors.

It looks as if a few people thought the same as well.
